Susan's early Victorian/Civil War era workshops
Dances from the 1840s through the 1870s

April: Susan will be teaching two Victorian dance workshops and precepting a formal ball at Cape May Vintage Dance Weekend, April 28-29, 2007, in beautiful Cape May, New Jersey.

August: Susan will be teaching beginning 19th century dance at Newport Vintage Dance Week with Antonia Pugliese. Material will include waltz, polka, schottische, and galop.

This fall: Susan will teach three mid- to late Victorian era dance workshops for The Elegant Arts Society in New York City! Details are still to be determined, but the class dates are September 9, October 7, and November 4, 2007.

November: Susan will be calling a Remembrance Day Ball in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on November 17, 2007. Last year's flyer is here, and pictures from previous years are here.


Mid-19thc dancers Mid-19th Century Waltz
Beginners: the basic rotary waltz and valse a deux temps of the mid-19th century.

Intermediate: variations including the Polka Redowa, Polka Mazurka, Zingarilla, La Koska, and Gitana.

Cellarius Valse/Valse Mazurka: turning mazurka for couples.


Polka & Galop
Beginners: basic polka and galop plus the Esmerelda and the Bohemian.

Intermediate: reversing plus the Sicilienne and other challenging variations
(must be comfortable with basic polka and galop)


Early Schottische
The basics of the dance and several easy variations from the earliest years of its popularity.


The Hongroise
A flying, heel-clicking dance from mid-19th-century. Prior couple dance experience required.
