American Civil War Ball
A mix of called dances (country dances/contras and quadrilles) and
couple dances popular in mid-19th century America including such
favorites as the Virginia Reel and the Spanish Dance. All called
dances are taught on the spot. The precise mix can be geared to your
dancers' level of experience:
For beginners
Primarily called dances, mostly contras and one or two very easy
quadrille figures, with a couple of waltzes and perhaps a polka or
galop.
For experienced groups
Roughly half called dances, including more complex quadrille and
contra figures, and half couple dances, including waltz, polka, galop,
and schottische.
For experts
Harder quadrilles and contras, but primarily couple dances,
including all of the above plus more unusual dances such as polka
mazurka and five-step waltz.
